Carapace
Rock Science, Inc. is committed to using the most environmentally conscious methods
possible in
all aspects of the business. Some examples towards these efforts are:
-
All water
used in the course of production is either used in the manufacturing process, or is collected,
contained and reused for the next day’s production. This recycling and
reuse completely eliminates any potential runoff into Florida's
delicate ecosystem. Carapace Rock Science
considers this just part of our fiduciary responsibility to our
community and the environment.
-
The cardboard and other cushioning
materials used for
packing and shipping orders is all material that was slated to be thrown away.
Carapace Rock Science sought out and created
partnerships with local businesses who did not have a
recycling program. These materials are collected from the
businesses, which reduces the
impact on our local landfills. After deliveries, packing materials are
collected, brought back to the production facility and reused again.
-
Nearly all of Carapace's lighting
needs are supplied by natural sunlight during the day, even inside the
production facility and office. When needed, electric lights have
all been upgraded
to high energy efficient lighting.
-
Carapace Rock Science refrains from
using harsh chemicals and solvents whenever possible, and focuses on the use of
environmentally friendly alternatives. Regardless, whenever any of these
products are used, they are
closely controlled, monitored, collected and disposed of properly.
-
Carapace Rock Science
uses only concrete pigments derived from natural sources. Iron
oxide is the primary pigment ingredient. Regardless, pigments
are always carefully utilized and any residual waste is reused in
later production. The same is true for the fiber reinforcement
used to strengthen the products.
-
In addition, the Carapace manufacturing process
has been streamlined to a point of efficiency where virtually all production
waste (residual sand, aggregate and residual cured concrete) is
recovered, broken down and reused in the next day's production.
Since none of the materials used in the manufacturing process are ever
discarded, the result is net savings for the company, and more
importantly, the elimination of any environmental impact from the
manufacturing process. We have found that this is a rare trait
in this industry.
